Your veggie questions answered

FAQs

Thank you for your interest in becoming a veg share member with Nourish Kernow! This information page is designed to give you a clear idea of what the veg share is all about, how it works, and the benefits you'll enjoy.

Why join Nourish Kernow?

There are plenty of reasons to join us:

● Support local: By becoming a member, you're helping the local community and enjoying fresh, seasonal veg.

● Stay connected: You'll stay connected to the land, the growers, and the process of producing your food.

● Explore new flavours: Our boxes include a variety of seasonal vegetables, so you'll get to try new things.

● Community involvement: Take part in our community events, receive our newsletter, and have the opportunity to tour the farm at exclusive member sessions.

What is a CSA?

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a partnership between growers and consumers, where the responsibilities, risks, and rewards of farming are shared. By joining our CSA, you're not just buying a veg box, you’re becoming a part of our farm's journey.

What are you signing up for?

When you join Nourish Kernow, you're doing more than just buying fresh produce, you're investing in your community. As a member of our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) project, you're helping us grow delicious, seasonal vegetables while supporting local growers, enhancing biodiversity, and promoting regenerative farming practices.

With Nourish Kernow, you'll enjoy eating with the seasons, knowing that your food has travelled metres rather than miles and is grown with care. Some weeks, your share box might be brimming with abundance and other weeks it might be a bit lighter due to weather and seasonal challenges. We’ll keep in touch and keep you updated each time.

What’s in the box each week?

Expect a variety of 5-7 items per veg share depending on the time of year, and our harvests.

In summer you could expect a variety of garlic, potato, courgette, mixed salad bag, onion, carrots, beans, heritage tomatoes, cucumber, peppers and aubergine.

In winter you could expect a variety of cabbage, kale, spinach, carrots, radish, potatoes, onions, leeks, beetroot, mixed salad bag, turnip, swiss chard or kohl rabi for example.

In our first couple of years, we anticipate we will be taking a break from February to end of May which is often called ‘the hungry gap’ until we get more established. You will not be charged during down times.

How do I sign up?
Our waiting list for 2026 is open. If you are keen to get a box, simply fill out our veg share sign-up form and we'll be in touch with further details in spring.

How does payment work?

As a member, you’ll make a weekly or monthly payment via direct debit or standing order, which covers your share of the harvest. Payments are made in advance at the start of each month. If you need to cancel your membership, just give us a month’s notice. If you need to pause, as you're away, just let us know and we’ll donate your share to someone who can use it.

How much does it cost?

Each share is £16.50 per week or a monthly payment of £71.50 per month paid on the 1st. This is perfect for most households, depending on how much veg you eat. This will include around 5-8 vegetables. (In summer 2025, we had 15 items at one point!)

How do I get my veg share?

You can pick up your veg box every Thursday afternoon from 3pm at Higher Culloden Farm on College Road.

We’re looking into delivery options in 2026. Let us know if it’s something you would be keen on.  There may be an additional charge.

What if I miss a box?

Since your payment is made at the start of the month, we can't offer refunds for missed boxes. If you know you’ll miss a week, let us know in advance so we can donate your weekly share to one of our volunteers or someone who needs it in our community.

Is all the veg grown at Nourish Kernow?

We grow as much of the produce as possible here at Nourish Kernow. If weather impacts our crops, we may supplement with produce from other local farms that follow organic principles. We’ll always let you know where your veg is from in our newsletter.

How can I stay updated?

We have a WhatsApp announcement and chat for members where you’ll be notified what’s in the box. The chat also includes member seasonal recipes, getting involved chat and news about upcoming member events.

There is a mailing list here that anyone can join which will have the latest news about veg shares opening and upcoming events. We promise not to bombard you!

You can also follow us on social media for more frequent updates and photos from Spence! Facebook or Instagram.

What If I need to cancel my veg box?

If you need to cancel, simply email us. You agree to give us a month’s notice so we can offer your share to someone else in time. We appreciate your support, no matter how long you’re with us.
