Come and get dirty with us this March!
Hello again,
It's funny this time of year. Daffodils always seem to be excited to get going, only to realise the error in their judgement. Winter doesn't end for a few more weeks.
But the days are definitely getting longer. On 1 March there will be 10 hours and 56 minutes of daylight (sunrise to sunset). So let's look forward to what the spring will bring...
Upcoming events
Volunteering
Our first volunteering session will be happening on Thursday 5th March. We will be contacting everyone signed up as volunteers before hand and will be using a WhatsApp group so we can plan and organise our sessions together.
We will let you know what to expect at each session so you can decide if it's something you feel able to join in with.
Through volunteering we're inviting you to come over and be an active part of Nourish Kernow CIC. You may know how to grow. You may not. Maybe you would like to meet other nice people in our community. Or spend some time in nature. Whatever the reason we will do our best to ensure we enjoy our time together. We'll learn, laugh and do good work.
So sign up to be one of our volunteers here.
Dirty Day
Our next event is on Saturday 21 March and will be all about bed prep. We're calling it 'Dirty Day!'
We'll do a guided tour and look at what is changing on the site as we start to welcome spring. You'll learn how to prep beds and we'll talk about different approaches we use, so you can take the learning with you and apply it yourself.
We'll also be putting up a moveable caterpillar tunnel ready for peas and beans. Though, if it's windy, we'll not be able to finish putting the plastic on as we'll get blown away!
Sign up to join us for Dirty Day here. Everyone welcome.
Foraging courses
We are super excited to be hosting foraging courses here at Nourish Kernow and Higher Culloden Farm which will be run by foraging expert and friend, Rebecca Head.
At these sessions you'll learn what to pick and enjoy a delightful wild salad, with delicious foraged blackcurrant vinegar. So if this is of interest please save the date for either 18th April or 2nd May. More details and booking to follow. I've heard there will be foraged nettle cake as well!
Other news
Train the teacher
We'll be holding our first train the teacher session. This will see us helping teachers to learn how to grow and build their confidence so they can get kids in school growing too! It is wonderful to be doing this and passing on our passion for wonderful fresh food to others in our community. Funded by Sustainable Food Cornwall.
Why join Nourish Kernow?
There are plenty of reasons to join us:
Support local: By becoming a member, you're helping local regenerative agriculture and getting access to tasty, fresh, seasonal veg.
Stay connected: You'll stay connected to the land, the growers and the process of producing your food.
Explore new flavours: Our boxes include a variety of seasonal vegetables, so you'll get to try new things, and often there are items you simply can’t get in the supermarket.
Community involvement: Take part in our community events, receive our newsletter and tour the fields at exclusive member sessions, plus opportunities to get hands-on with volunteering (if you’re interested).
And there’s more…
When you join Nourish Kernow CIC, you're doing more than just buying fresh produce – you're investing in your community. As a member of our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) project, you're helping us grow delicious, seasonal vegetables while supporting local growers, enhancing biodiversity and promoting regenerative farming practices.
You'll enjoy eating with the seasons, knowing that your food has travelled metres rather than miles and is grown with care to organic principles.
